 Praised for their meticulous research and accuracy, especially in forensic medicine and police procedures, Patricia Cornwell's novels have set a new standard for crime fiction. Cornwell's first crime novel, Postmortem, introduced Dr. Kay Scarpetta as the Chief Medical Examiner of the Commonwealth of Virginia-and became the first novel to win the Edgar, Creasey, Anthony, and Macavity awards as well as the French Prix du Roman d'Aventure in a single year.
